Welcome to Susan Dinnien!

John Goodin, Senior Vice President of Commercial Business Services, retired from Harford Mutual on March 26, 2018. John joined Harford Mutual in 2009 as Director of Underwriting and was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Commercial Business Services, in 2013, to Vice President in 2015, and to Senior Vice President in 2016. He was instrumental in the evolution of the Underwriting Department during a time of rapid growth for our company and we wish him all the best in retirement.

After a six-month search, we welcome Susan Dinnien as Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer effective March 19.

Susan spent 27 years at The Hartford training first as an underwriter, moving up to senior then executive underwriter before moving into sales and territory management. She spent seven years as a Senior Executive Underwriter and Middle Market manager in New York City, where she was ranked in the Top 10 in sales and a five-time Winners Circle Recipient for sales excellence.

In 2016, Susan was promoted to Division Underwriting Officer responsible for a 5-state territory and seven regional offices. She created underwriting guidelines and loss prevention strategies, as well as developing quality management processes and collaborating with actuarial services and IT to integrate data into more complex underwriting policies.

We look forward to the knowledge and perspective that Susan will bring to Harford Mutual as we expand our state plans and continue to elevate our underwriting acumen and sophistication.

Harford Mutual donation to The Maryland Book Bank

Harford Mutual Insurance employees gathered to officially donate over 550 books to The Maryland Book Bank. Employees were asked to donate books during the month of February as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility mission of supporting the communities we serve.

According to the Maryland Book Bank, there is often only 1 book per 300 children in low-income neighborhoods. Children in these "book deserts" are invited to visit the bookmobile when it comes to their neighborhood and select and keep up to 5 books each. Consider a book drive at your company.
