Employees Honored for Insurance Designations Earned in 2014
Harford Mutual hosted its annual Employee Education Luncheon honoring those employees who are pursuing designations offered by the Insurance Institute of America. We are proud to congratulate the following employees on their achievement in 2014:

Commercial Business Services Welcomes 4 New Team Members and 2 Summer Interns
The underwriting department at Harford Mutual is pleased to announce the addition of four new underwriters and two summer interns from Temple University to its busy team.

Commercial Underwriters Amy Jack, AAI, CRIS, CLCS and Mike Surell, AU will lead the efforts in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Amy joins the CBS team bringing a P&C Producer License and previous agency experience. She is a graduate of Radford University, Radford, VA with a BA in business administration management. Amy will be working with our central PA agents.

Mike joins Harford Mutual having worked previously for Liberty Mutual. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park with a BS in finance and is working toward earning his CPCU designation. He will have a Virginia territory.

The Harford Mutual family is proud to welcome back Dylan Isadore who interned for CBS last summer. Dylan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management and Insurance from Temple University. After training, Dylan will be a Commercial Underwriter B and his territory will include Delaware and New Jersey.

Sharon Rodgers, CPCU, CBAP also joins us as a Commercial Underwriter B. Previously she was a business analyst with Zurich before joining Harford Mutual. Sharon hails from New Freedom  and earned her Bachelors of Science in Psychology at Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA.

Lastly, Harford Mutual welcomes two summer interns from Temple University. Kelly Dougherty and Alex Troutman are both pursuing bachelor’s degree through Temple University's program in Risk Management and Insurance (RMI), a nationally recognized program in the Department of Risk, Insurance, and Healthcare Management.

Loss Control Welcomes New Team Members
Harford Mutual’s Loss Control department is busy throughout the year performing inspections and developing comprehensive safety programs to help prevent and mitigate accidents and damages.

Kym Horton has joined the Loss Control team where she will partner with marketing developing safety communications materials; schedule inspections with our underwriting group; and coordinate all related administrative activities for the department.

Wayne Hammond has been an independent contractor providing loss control services to Harford Mutual for years. He is well versed in fleet safety and department of transportation requirements. He will be responsible for loss control services and safety programs in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

Claims Dept. Fortifies Staff for Superior Service
Josh Swimmer was hired as a Property Claims Examiner in March 2014. Prior to joining Harford Mutual, Swimmer worked in the construction industry specializing in water mitigation, restoration, and emergency services and content administration for insurance claims. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.

Ed Yingling, Senior Claims Examiner, brings workers’ compensation claims experience with Liberty Mutual Insurance to his new position at Harford Mutual. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Penn State University, his AIC and AINS designations, and is working on obtaining his CPCU.

Alison Barry, Casualty Claims Examiner, joined Harford Mutual after clerking for the Honorable William O. Carr, Administrative Judge for Harford County Circuit Court and Michael G. Rinn, Bankruptcy Trustee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland. She is an honors graduate of Villa Julie College and the University of Baltimore, School of Law, and obtained her AIC designation in April 2014.

Katie Gettier, Property Claims Examiner, began her employment at Harford Mutual after graduating with a Master of Accountancy from Belmont University in Tennessee. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in public administration from Elon University and was Head of Purchasing for Ice World.

Congratulations to Claims Assistant Karen Kinney and Claims Examiner Rebecca Thacker for earning their AIC designations in April 2014.

Two New Underwriters Join Commercial Business Services Team
Joseph Hoffman IV joins Commercial Business Services as an Underwriting Trainee. He is a graduate of York College in York, PA with a degree in Mathematics. He taught high school Mathematics for 4 ½ years and was an adjunct professor at Community College of Baltimore County.

Ryan Erdman joins Commercial Business Services as an Underwriting Trainee and brings 10 years of industry experience to his new job. He has worked both the company and agency sides of the business. Ryan holds a Sports Management degree from the Newmann University, located in Aston, PA.

Liquor Liability Added to Restaurant Coverage in PA & NJ
Effective January 1, 2014, Liquor Liability Coverage is available on Restaurant Policies in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, joining Maryland, Delaware, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and Washington DC.

Harford Mutual has been providing innovative, comprehensive insurance coverage for restaurants for more than 25 years. In addition to Liquor Liability, our Restaurant policies can include coverage for accounts receivables, fine arts, delivery errors and omissions and many other customizable options.
