Marketing Communication Specialist
Employee Relations & Community Outreach

Job Summary

Harford Mutual is seeking an experienced Marketing Communication Specialist to support the Marketing Team.  This position is responsible for the development and execution of daily integrated marketing communications including, but not limited to, digital, print and social media, public relations, and tradeshows and events. This position is responsible for collaboration within the Marketing Department and with other departments on strategic planning, industry research, internal communications and internal/external customer support.

Essential Duties

  • Plan, support and execute integrated marketing communications such as public relations, advertising, website content, digital marketing, print and web design, photo and video productions, tradeshows and events, social media, customer events and marketing campaigns.
  • Increase brand and company awareness through earned and paid media.
  • Establish goals for marketing events and programs and track performance against goals. Oversee annual and project budgets and determine ROI of marketing programs.
  • Under the direction of the Human Resources Director and in collaboration with the Marketing Manager provides support in the planning, execution, and tracking of all employee-related programs and events to include onboarding and welcome, service awards, education awards, holiday party, appreciation day, employee commemoration gifts, etc.
  • Under the direction of the Marketing Manager and in collaboration with the Giving Committee manages the company giving budget and community outreach efforts.
  • Is department point of contact for company sponsored events for employees and community partners.
  • Provides guidance, assistance, and/or execution of logistical planning, thematic relevance, creation of collateral materials, ordering of promotional items, vendor negotiation and management, etc.
  • Develop and maintain strategic marketing collateral, for example: print, multimedia, promotional giveaways, presentations and other tools as needed.  
  • Coordinate photo and video projects for use across all media platforms internally and externally
  • Take quality photos and videos for use across social media platforms and selected internal and external audiences.
  • Create compelling copy for various media outlets including, print, web, email, direct mail, and broadcast.
  • This role will require flexibility in terms of work hours including weekends to support events.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, marketing, communications, publication design or related field.
  • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in marketing, advertising, corporate communications or similar field.
  • Insurance industry experience is a plus
  • Proficient to Expert User with entire Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with social media platforms not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest
  • Proficient user of web content management programs
  • Strong collaborating skills and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive

Software Engineer

Job Summary

Harford Mutual is seeking Software Engineers to support the Information Technology Team.  This position works independently on complex subroutines and assists in the development of major system modules and applications.

Essential Duties

  • Participates in full life cycle application development, including designing, coding, 
  • testing, and debugging.
  • Provides configuration support for third-party applications.
  • Collaborate on XSLT mapping and requirements
  • Coordinates development and testing of all modules per conformance with established departmental guidelines, policies and practices as well as industry standard guidelines.
  • Performs acceptance testing and program implementation for assigned systems and/or projects. 
  • Conducts thorough problem analysis in regard to technical system and application programs; documents findings and proposes problem resolution alternatives.
  • Provides support, maintenance and ongoing enhancements to projects in addition to writing technical and end-user documentation.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of all processes and procedures according to company polices, procedures, and standards.
  • Implements continuous improvement processes by providing feedback to management concerning possible problems and areas of concern.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Computer Science/Information Technology program.  Experience can be substituted for a college degree.

Regional Business Development Manager

Job Summary

The Regional Business Development Manager will focus on managing production underwriting, business development, and staff in order to increase written premium, improve loss ratio and retention, and increase Company name recognition.  In addition, maintain a high level of customer service and further develop the business potential within our operating territories while drawing upon the strategic direction of the corporation and the commercial business services department. This role will be based in the Bel Air, Maryland and responsible for Harford Mutual’s northern states.

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for the premium development and loss experience of the commercial lines book of business.
  • Management of Production Underwriters and support staff within the unit.  Provides mentoring, leadership and training to production underwriters.
  • Participate in the development of marketing strategies, underwriting policy, pricing strategies, product development, and agency Internet services.
  • Responsible for increasing the company’s presence within the geographic territories in which we operate, and improving the quality of the agency plant within those territories. 
  • Business Development Manager must know the business climate of the territories/states managed, to include legal conditions, market trends and competitor actions.  Must possess a strong understanding of the company’s overall strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in each territory managed.  The business development manager must provide leadership to the production underwriters in finding solutions to problems and ways to exploit the opportunities.
  • Work closely with the production underwriters to identify business opportunities within operating territory.  Strategies are developed and presented to the corporation on how to capitalize on opportunities within the territory.
  • Assists in the development of the annual business development plan.
  • Responsible for the execution of the corporate strategies and business plan within their operating territory.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree

Paralegal

Job Summary

Harford Mutual is seeking a Paralegal to research law, investigate facts, and prepare documents to assist the Legal and Claim Departments by performing a variety of support duties.  In addition, this individual will research law sources such as statutes, regulations and insurance department bulletins, legal articles, etc. to aid both Departments in their daily duties and responsibilities.

Auto/Casualty Claims Examiner

Job Summary

Harford Mutual is seeking a Claims Examiner to review, evaluate and process third-party, commercial auto and casualty claims. Candidates will be expected to efficiently and competently handle bodily injury, property damage, and extended medical benefits claims in the Mid-Atlantic Region. This position requires comprehensive knowledge of, and familiarity with, the following:  commercial automobile and general liability coverages, litigation management, experience with evaluating bodily injuries, understanding general liability principles, and relevant premises and auto liability case law.  Familiarity with MD, DE, NJ and PA Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists’ coverage is a plus.

Essential Duties

  • Conducts prompt and thorough investigation of claims within departmental and regulatory guidelines.
  • Documents claim file activity and telephone conversations appropriately.
  • Pro-actively communicates with claimants, policyholders, and underwriters to resolve investigative issues.
  • Establishes, communicates and manages claimant and policyholder expectations.
  • Evaluates bodily injury and property damage exposures.
  • Utilizes most efficient means to obtain claim information.

Premium Auditor

Job Summary

This position conducts on-site audits of commercial accounts to determine the appropriate classifications and exposures to be used as the basis of premium.  This role assembles facts and data having a bearing on the determination of actual earned premiums for specific classes of casualty insurance including workers' compensation, auto liability, and public liability.  This position will be required to support audit activities in the DC-Metro/Northern VA area.

Essential Duties

  • This position conducts audits on commercial accounts to validate the accuracy of classifications and premium basis within a defined geographical area. 
  • Scheduling audit appointments require advance contact with insured’s, and/or agents.  Travel must be scheduled within the assigned area to allow for completion of a maximum number of audits.
  • This position will require the ability to be on the road conducting physical on-site audits at least 75% of the time.
  • The incumbent must complete an audit based on industry standard rules and interpretation for that jurisdiction.
  • Audits include a physical inspection of insured’s books to obtain the audit exposures.
  • The Auditor should conduct a brief tour of the insured premises to verify hazards and to document any changes in the insured’s operation.
  • The Auditor should send notifications to Underwriters of any unusual conditions that may affect the premium or classifications.
  • The Auditor is to interact with agents and associates to communicate and support the audit results.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-year degree; Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Insurance, or equivalent education.
  • Two years of audit experience preferred
  • PAAS Certification or other industry designation (APA or CPCU) preferred
  • Ability to travel at least 75% of the time to support audits
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to make independent, informed decisions.
