How to document my loss for claim purposes

• Take a written or photographic inventory of the contents in your home or place of business
• Additional ownership verification may be requested in the event of a loss
• Retain receipts and owner’s manuals for purchases of personal property and record serial numbers of electronics and other theft-prone items for identification purposes
• Keep copies of important documents in a secure location away from your home or place of business in the event of a total loss 
• A fire-retardant safe is useful for protecting important on-site documents
• In the event of a property damage loss, keep receipts of any expenses incurred for reasonable emergency repairs made to protect your home or property
• If possible, take photographs of the damage prior to conducting any repairs
