The Harford Mutual Insurance Company and Firstline National Insurance Company are firmly dedicated to protecting and preserving the confidentiality of our customers’ nonpublic personal information. Since we started business in 1842, we have believed that insurance is really a matter of trust. We greatly value your trust, and we appreciate this opportunity to share our procedures and policies designed to safeguard the privacy of information you share with us or which we obtain in the course of our business dealings. We will inform you concerning these policies in this initial notice and every year that you remain our customer, typically upon renewal of your policy. You can be confident that we are committed to protecting your right to privacy, even beyond the requirements of law.

 

Statement of Privacy Principles

  • We do not sell customer personal information.
  • We do not share customer personal information with nonaffiliated third parties for their own marketing purposes.
  • We do not share either nonpublic personal health information or nonpublic personal financial information, except as may be authorized by law.
  • We will require that persons or organizations providing goods or services to our customers on our behalf protect the confidentiality of customer personal information.
  • We will offer the nonpublic personal information of former customers the same level of protection as we afford our current customers.
  • We will protect customer information through the use of reasonable internal safeguards, information system security procedures, employee training on customer privacy and compliance audits.

Information We May Collect

 

We only collect information about our customers for legitimate business purposes. This information is necessary for a wide variety of reasons such as determining your particular insurance coverage needs, the accurate calculation of appropriate premiums, the appropriate disposition of claims and to provide you with responsive customer service. We may collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources:

  • Information we receive from you on applications and other forms, including identifying information such as name, address and social security numbers;
  • Information about your transactions with us; such as your payment history, underwriting and claims documents, account balances and parties to your policy;
  • Information we receive from consumer reporting agencies;
  • Information we receive from your insurance agent;
  • Information we receive from the adjustment of claims; and
  • Information from nonaffiliated companies that perform services on our behalf; such as obtaining or furnishing inspections, driving records and audits.

Information Disclosure

 

We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our customers or former customers to anyone, except as permitted by law. For example, providing information to industry regulators, to law enforcement agencies, for fraud prevention, to your insurance agent, to credit bureaus and to other companies to assist us in processing the transactions you request or authorize.

 

We reserve the right to disclose in the future certain nonpublic personal financial information we collect as described above to other companies solely in order to perform marketing services on our behalf and to other financial institutions with whom we may enter into joint marketing agreements. In such an event, the information we disclose will be limited to information we collect from you on applications and in your transactions with us; such as information pertaining to names, addresses, social security numbers, income, assets, premiums and account balances. We will contractually prohibit any such company or financial institution from disclosing or using the information for other purposes.

 

Security Policy and Procedures

 

We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect customer personal information. Our security policy provides for:

  • Access to customer records being restricted to employees we determine need to know that information to perform their job duties and to provide products and services to you;
  • Physical security at our buildings;
  • Employee training on the subject of customer privacy issues;
  • Maintaining and protecting information through software designed to enhance security; such as virus and intrusion detection software;
  • Password protection on database access;
  • Compliance and security audits;
  • Information system backup and recovery procedures; and
  • Disaster recovery plans and procedures
